  • A striking day on the beach for year 9!

    Eighty-six Year 9 students took Ryde by storm this 'activities week' as they descended onto Ryde Seafront and Superbowl for some fun and relaxation.

    As the tide went out, students made the most of the beach, playing beach football, cricket, swing ball, giant Jenga and paddling in the sea.

    As the sun hit its highest, it was off to the Superbowl for bowling and laser quest. There were some super skilful performances on the alleys, pins flying everywhere! The best snipers in laser quest were terrifyingly good! Prizes will be presented during tomorrow's celebration assembly.

    A huge well done to Year 9, you were brilliant all day. And a huge thanks to Mrs King, Ms Bridgewater, Ms Jones, Mr Schlachter, Mrs Smith and Ms Harris, who were amazing at herding the crew along the beach and organising lanes!

  • CARISBROOKE STUDENTS STAGE PAULTONS PARK TAKE OVER!

    Carisbrooke College overran Paultons Park on Wednesday when 97 students from year 8 and 50 students from year 10 travelled over to the mainland to descend on the park! The weather was absolutely beautiful and everyone had a fantastic time braving all the rides and experiencing the various attractions – including Peppa Pig World!

    Students (and staff!) had a lot of fun throughout the day. Miss Suddell and Miss Divers, in particular, loved the Ghost Mansion, which was one of their favourite parts of the day! 

    It was wonderful to see all our students representing the school so well and demonstrating excellent behaviour, kindness and respect throughout the trip. We even received feedback on the boat from an ex-primary school headteacher who said that our students were all fantastic! 

    Students should thank all their staff members for such amazing teamwork throughout the day. A massive thank-you in particular to Mr Burnett, Miss Suddell and Mr Doe for looking after the year 10 students and to Miss Divers, Mr Fleming, Mrs Makepeace, Mr Lyle, Ms Sheppard and Tegan, who all helped to keep the year 8 students safe and make the day such a success.

  • Gig in a Day – Activities Week 2026

    Fifteen talented students from Years 7–10 took part in our ‘Gig in a Day’ event as part of Activities Week, spending the day rehearsing and preparing a fantastic live concert for the afternoon. The audience included 55 Year 5 and Year 6 pupils from St Thomas of Canterbury Primary School, alongside many of our own students, creating a lively and supportive live music venue atmosphere.

    The concert was particularly special as it featured debut performances from several Year 7 and 8 students, many of whom had never performed in front of a live audience before. Their confidence and enthusiasm shone through, performing alongside more experienced musicians from Years 8, 9 and 10.

    The programme showcased an impressive variety of musical styles, including Shape of You, A Million Dreams, American Idiot, Too Little, Too Late, Two Birds on a Wire, Beggin', Be Quiet and Drive, and Chasing Sunsets. Students worked collaboratively throughout the day, demonstrating excellent teamwork, musicianship and courage as they transformed just a few hours of rehearsal into polished and engaging performances.

    The event was a wonderful celebration of creativity and talent, and it was fantastic to share our students' achievements with visiting primary pupils, giving them a glimpse of the exciting musical opportunities available at Carisbrooke College.   • Fantasy Football World Cup: The Final Whistle!

    The goals have been scored, the points have been counted, and after weeks of tactical masterclasses (and the occasional transfer disaster!), the Carisbrooke College Fantasy Football World Cup Dream Team has finally crowned its champion!

    This year's competition attracted more than 40 students and staff, all battling it out for fantasy football glory. Every goal, assist and clean sheet mattered as competitors desperately refreshed the leaderboard, hoping their players would deliver the goods.

    Even after England's fantastic run came to an end in the semi-finals, interest in the competition never faded. With every remaining World Cup match capable of changing the standings, the race for the title went right down to the wire.

    When the final points were added up, there was one clear winner...

    Sullivan C (Year 7) produced a fantasy football performance worthy of lifting the World Cup itself! His incredible 569 points left the rest of the field chasing shadows and earned him the title of 2026 Carisbrooke College Fantasy Football World Cup Champion.

    Jack H put together a brilliant campaign of his own, finishing in second place with a superb 499 points.

    Taking third place overall and earning the bragging rights as Top Staff Manager was Mr Gloyn, who scored an impressive 476 points. Not bad for someone who insists they "know a thing or two" about football! The students may have won this year, but the staff certainly made them work for it.

    As this year's champion, Sullivan will now have his name proudly engraved on the Carisbrooke College All-Time Winners Trophy, joining a long line of legendary Fantasy Football champions. His victory has secured his place in Carisbrooke history and given everyone else something to aim for next time!

    A huge well done goes to everyone who entered. From last-minute captain changes that worked perfectly, to those transfers we'd all rather forget, every manager played their part in making this year's competition one of the most exciting yet.

    The big question now is...

    Can Sullivan defend the title next year in the Women's Euros?

    Only time will tell... but one thing is certain:

    The Fantasy Football trophy will be up for grabs again, and the competition is only going to get bigger!

  • Carisbrooke College Sports Day 2026 – A Celebration of Talent, Tradition and House Spirit

    There are few events in the school calendar that capture the spirit of Carisbrooke College quite like Sports Day, and this year's event was a wonderful reminder of why this much-loved tradition continues to play such an important role in school life.

    With more than 200 Year 7 and Year 8 students taking part, the college field was transformed into a vibrant arena of colour, determination and House pride. From the explosive power of the field events to the excitement of the sprint finals and the determination shown in the longer-distance races, every event was met with enthusiastic support from classmates and staff alike.

    What makes Sports Day so special is that it offers every student the opportunity to shine. For some, it is the chance to chase school records or stand proudly on the podium with a medal around their neck. For others, it is about stepping outside their comfort zone, representing their House and discovering what they can achieve. Watching so many students leave the field at the end of the day wearing their medals with pride was a wonderful sight and a fitting reward for the effort, resilience and determination shown throughout the competition.

    In a world where children's lives are increasingly dominated by technology, there is something incredibly important about preserving the tradition of Sports Day. It remains one of those rare occasions when an entire year group comes together to compete, encourage one another and celebrate success in all its forms. Whether crossing the finish line first or simply finishing a race they never thought they could complete, every student had the opportunity to experience the pride that comes from giving their very best in front of their peers. Those moments build confidence, resilience and memories that often stay with young people long after they leave school.

    This year's competition also produced an incredible standard of athletics, with six school records being broken during the day.

    A huge congratulations to:

    • Jenson W, who enjoyed a remarkable day by breaking both the Year 7 Triple Jump and Year 7 800m school records.
    • Joshua P, whose outstanding run set a new 1500m school record.
    • Eva A, who produced a superb performance to break the Year 8 Girls' Long Jump record.
    • Jessica M, who established a new Year 7 Girls' Triple Jump record.
    • Gracie B, whose exceptional sprint earned her a new Girls' 200m school record.

    To witness six records fall in a single Sports Day is a remarkable achievement and reflects the talent, commitment and enthusiasm of our young athletes. Especially considering some of these records went as far back as 2013. There was almost a 2003 record broken at one point. 

    The battle for House points was fiercely contested throughout the afternoon.

    4th 7C – 121 points

    Congratulations to 7D, who were deservedly crowned Year 7 champions. Their celebrations were made even more memorable thanks to Mr Doe, who had the entire House enthusiastically performing the now-famous Norwegian Rowing celebration. It was a wonderful moment that perfectly captured the joy, camaraderie and House spirit that make Sports Day so special.

    Congratulations to 8B, whose consistency across the day saw them crowned worthy Year 8 champions.

    While the record breakers and medal winners rightly deserve recognition, perhaps the greatest success of the day was seeing every student encouraged to participate, support one another and contribute to their House. The cheers from the sidelines, the celebrations after every race and the determination shown by every competitor demonstrated exactly what school sport should be about.

    Events like Sports Day remind us that education extends far beyond the classroom. They teach resilience in defeat, humility in victory, teamwork, courage and perseverance, qualities that will serve our young people throughout their lives.

    Finally, our sincere thanks go to every member of staff who gave up their time to officiate events, measure jumps and throws, record results, encourage competitors and help create such a positive atmosphere throughout the day. A special thank you must also go to the PE Department and the young sports leaders, whose exceptional organisation and hard work ensured that the event ran safely, smoothly and successfully, allowing every student to enjoy a memorable day of competition.

    Congratulations to everyone who took part. Whether you left with a medal, a school record, valuable House points or simply the satisfaction of giving your very best, you helped make Carisbrooke College Sports Day 2026 another outstanding celebration of sport, community and school pride.

  • Carisbrooke College Annual Golf Competition Swings into Success

    On Monday 20th July, students from Carisbrooke College headed to Westridge Golf Club for our annual Golf Competition, enjoying a fantastic day of sport, friendly competition and, of course, the occasional adventure into the rough!

    This year's format saw students tackle a full 18-hole medal competition, with players able to submit their best front or back nine holes as their official competition score. The format gave everyone, from experienced golfers to those playing their very first competitive round, the chance to produce a score they could be proud of.

    The standard of golf on display was exceptional. Congratulations go to Logan, who claimed this year's title with a remarkable 36, closely followed by William on 39. Considering the junior par for nine holes is 33, both performances were simply outstanding and a testament to the hard work and dedication they have shown to their game.

    However, the competition wasn't just about the scores. Every student represented Carisbrooke College brilliantly, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship, encouragement and resilience throughout the day. Whether they were seasoned golfers or picking up a scorecard for the first time, every player was a credit to the school.

    As always, a few memorable moments deserve a special mention…

    A huge well done to Thomas, who completed his very first golf competition and embraced every challenge the course had to offer.

    Joshua produced what was surely one of the shots of the day by landing his approach to within five feet of the pin. Unfortunately, golf has a wonderful way of keeping us humble, and three putts later he somehow managed to walk away with a bogey. Proof that golf is a game of two halves!

    Harry seemed determined to build a closer relationship with the greens than most, spending more time lying on them than putting on them. Whether he was checking the grass quality or simply taking in the scenery remains a mystery!

    Special recognition also goes to Archie D and Archie T-P, who demonstrated tremendous patience and good humour by accompanying Mr Fleming during what can only be described as a character-building round. Rumour has it the scorecard finished somewhere around 50 over par, proving that even teachers have "off days" on the golf course!

    Then there were the 'Mulligan Boys' – Warrick, Connor, Henry and Ethan – who perhaps hadn't quite realised this was a genuine medal competition rather than a casual Sunday knock-about! Their enthusiasm for the occasional "second chance" certainly kept everyone smiling, even if the scorecards didn't always agree.

    A huge thank-you goes to Westridge Golf Club for once again hosting the competition and providing such a welcoming venue for our students. We are incredibly grateful for their continued support.

    Finally, thank you to Mr Fleming and Mr Peake for organising the event and supporting our students throughout the day. Events like these provide fantastic opportunities for students to develop not only their golfing skills but also the honesty, resilience and sportsmanship that make golf such a unique and rewarding game.

    Congratulations to everyone who took part. Whether you were chasing birdies, searching for golf balls in the trees or perfecting your putting, you all represented Carisbrooke College with pride—and we're already looking forward to next year's competition!

  • Carisbrooke College Students Enjoy an Action-Packed Day at the Goodwood Festival of Speed

    Sixty students from Carisbrooke College experienced an unforgettable day of innovation, inspiration and high-speed excitement when they visited the world-famous Goodwood Festival of Speed on Thursday 9th July.

    The annual festival is renowned for bringing together the very best of motorsport, engineering and technology, making it the perfect destination for students with an interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Throughout the day, our students immersed themselves in a variety of interactive STEM activities, discovering how science, maths and engineering are shaping the future of the automotive and motorsport industries. They explored cutting-edge technology, sustainable vehicle design and the many exciting career opportunities available within these rapidly evolving sectors.

    Of course, the day wasn't all about the classroom! Students had the chance to experience the incredible atmosphere that makes the Festival of Speed one of the UK's most iconic sporting events. They watched the famous hill climb, admired an extraordinary collection of historic racing cars, modern Formula 1 machinery, electric supercars and some of the world's most impressive hypercars.

    One of the biggest highlights of the day was seeing current Formula 1 World Championship leader Kimi Antonelli, whose appearance generated huge excitement among motorsport fans. For many students, it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see one of Formula 1's brightest young talents up close and experience the buzz surrounding the future of the sport.

    There was no shortage of adrenaline elsewhere around the festival either. The spectacular action sports arena kept everyone entertained with jaw-dropping freestyle motocross, BMX and stunt bike displays, where riders performed gravity-defying tricks that left the crowds amazed. Students also enjoyed exploring manufacturer exhibitions, interactive displays and seeing famous drivers, riders and engineers who continue to push the boundaries of performance and innovation.

    The visit perfectly demonstrated how STEM subjects learnt in school can open the door to exciting careers in engineering, technology, design and motorsport. Seeing these concepts applied in the real world inspired many of our students to think about the possibilities that lie ahead.

    A special thank-you goes to Mrs Lythgoe, Mrs Bridgewater, Miss Harris, Tegan and Mr Peake, whose enthusiasm, support and organisation helped make the visit such a fantastic experience for all 60 students.

    Trips like these are invaluable in bringing learning to life, broadening horizons and inspiring the next generation of engineers, designers and innovators. It was a truly memorable day, filled with discovery, excitement and experiences that our students will be talking about for years to come.

  • Year 7 Makes a Splash at Splashdown!

    Ninety-four Year 7 students from Carisbrooke College enjoyed a fantastic day out at Splashdown Aqua Park in Poole on Tuesday with plenty of thrills, laughter and unforgettable memories from start to finish.

    From the moment the doors opened, students (and staff!) threw themselves into the adventure, with many bravely taking on the fastest and steepest water slides the park has to offer. Whether racing friends to the bottom, conquering a slide for the very first time or simply enjoying the rapids, everyone embraced the day with enthusiasm and big smiles.

    One of the most impressive aspects of the trip, however, wasn't just the courage shown on the slides—it was the mature attitude displayed by the students throughout the day. Their behaviour was exemplary, and their impeccable timekeeping meant that every meeting point was reached on schedule, allowing the entire trip to run like clockwork. It made for a smooth, enjoyable day for everyone involved and was a real credit to the college.

    Of course, no school trip would be complete without a memorable journey home! The coach was filled with a cheerful—and exceptionally loud—sing-along that had everyone joining in (whether they wanted to or not!). It certainly ensured the return journey was one to remember.

    A huge thank-you goes to the staff who gave up their time to plan the trip and make it possible: Ms O'Callaghan, Mrs Lythgoe, Ms Ezard, Miss Lee, Miss Osborne and Mr Westby. Their energy, enthusiasm and tireless efforts helped ensure the day was such a success.

    Finally, a special mention must go to trip leader Mr Briscoe, whose excellent organisation ensured everything ran perfectly from beginning to end. He also deserves even greater congratulations for heroically enduring the enthusiastic (if somewhat off-key!) singing from the back of the coach all the way home. Now that's dedication!

    Well done to all 94 Year 7 students for representing Carisbrooke College so brilliantly. It was a fantastic day full of fun, friendship and bravery—and one that will no doubt be remembered for a long time to come.

  • Play in a Day

    Twenty-two students from Years 7 and 8 embraced the challenge of creating and performing an entire play in just 4½ hours as part of our exciting Activities week 'Play in a Day' project.

    Working from scenes taken from Brainstorm by Ned Glasier, Emily Lim and Company Three, students collaborated from scratch to devise, rehearse and perform a thought-provoking production exploring what it means to be a teenager. Covering themes ranging from family relationships and friendships to the pressures of growing up, the play balanced heartfelt moments with plenty of humour, creating an engaging and relatable performance.

    Brainstorm is a unique theatrical exploration of how teenagers' brains work and why they have evolved to develop in the way they do. Created in collaboration with neuroscientists Professor Sarah-Jayne Blakemore and Dr Kate Mills, the play draws on the real-life experiences of young people, making it especially relevant and authentic for both performers and audiences alike.

    The achievements of every student involved were nothing short of remarkable. In just a matter of hours, the cast learnt their lines, blocked each scene and brought the script to life with confidence, humour and emotional expression well beyond their years. Their commitment, creativity and teamwork resulted in a polished and engaging performance that was a testament to their talent and determination.

    The students then performed their play to an audience of 53 Year 5 and Year 6 pupils from St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Primary School, alongside some of our own Key Stage 3 students. The cast made excellent use of audience participation throughout the performance, creating an energetic and interactive atmosphere that had the audience laughing, reflecting and fully engaged from start to finish. The performance received rave reviews and enthusiastic praise from both pupils and staff alike.

    We are immensely proud of every student who took part. To create, rehearse and perform such a high-quality production in just half a day is an incredible achievement, and one that they should all remember with pride.

    A special thank-you goes to Mr Lyle, Miss Ridley and Mrs Peckham for supporting and inspiring the students throughout the day and helping to make the project such a resounding success.

  • Awards Evening

    Our annual Awards Evening took place on Thursday 16 July 2026 and was a wonderful celebration of the achievements, character and success of our students. The Sports Hall was once again transformed into a spectacular event space, creating a fitting setting for an evening filled with pride, celebration and a real sense of community.

    It was heartwarming to welcome families, students and staff together to recognise the hard work, determination and personal growth of our learners. One of the most special moments of the evening was hearing teachers speak so passionately about each award winner, sharing the qualities, achievements and contributions that make them such valued members of the Carisbrooke College community.

    Awards were presented across every subject and year group, alongside a range of special awards including the Sports Team of the Year Award, Year Group Awards, Endeavour, Progress and Achievement Awards, and the Headteacher's Award.

    This year also saw the introduction of a new award in memory of our much-loved caretaker, Pete Ball, who sadly passed away at Easter. The Pete Ball Memorial Award recognises a student who embodies the qualities that made Pete such a treasured member of the Carisbrooke family – a larger-than-life character, someone who took immense pride in Carisbrooke College and was dedicated to supporting others and contributing positively to our community. It was a fitting tribute to Pete's lasting legacy and an honour to present the inaugural award.

    Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed a number of fantastic musical performances from our talented students, while displays of student artwork showcased the creativity and talent that exists across the college. Light refreshments were served, adding to the warm and welcoming atmosphere.

    At Carisbrooke College, our castle values are at the heart of everything we do. Every student recognised during the evening has demonstrated these values through their commitment, resilience, kindness and determination. They are exceptional ambassadors for our school, and we are incredibly proud of all they have achieved. We have no doubt they all have bright futures ahead of them.

  • ‘Walk the West’ Coastal Challenge

    On Monday 20 July, 75 students took part in our ‘Walk the West’ Coastal Challenge, completing a spectacular circular route around the west of the Isle of Wight. Despite the long distance covered and the hot weather, the students were absolutely amazing throughout the day.

    Starting and finishing at Freshwater Bay, the route took in the stunning scenery of Tennyson Down, The Needles, Headon Warren, Totland, Colwell Bay, Yarmouth and the Western Yar. The viewpoints from Tennyson Down and Headon Warren were truly spectacular and provided unforgettable moments for everyone involved.

    Student engagement, behaviour and attitude was exceptional from start to finish. The day was physically demanding, but students showed remarkable resilience, digging deep when the walking became tough. It was particularly pleasing to see them encouraging and supporting one another throughout the challenge, demonstrating excellent teamwork and determination.

    We enjoyed a picnic lunch at Totland Bay, where some students even took the opportunity for a refreshing paddle in the sea. Ice creams at Colwell Bay provided a welcome boost before the final stages of the walk, and another well-earned treat at the finish line in Freshwater Bay was the perfect way to celebrate the achievement. A lovely bonus at the end of the day was watching a game of cricket at Freshwater, rounding off a fantastic day in the sunshine.

    A huge thank-you goes to the staff who gave up their time and energy to make the day such a success: Mr Lyle, Mrs Peckham, Mr Westby, Miss Bridgewater, Miss Dove and Miss Larcombe. Their support, encouragement and organisation ensured that the 75 students had a safe, enjoyable and memorable experience.

    The Walk the West Coastal Challenge was a wonderful example of our students embracing a challenge with positivity, resilience and enthusiasm. They should all be incredibly proud of what they achieved.

    A Year of Competition, Champions and House Glory!

    What a year it has been! From the very first whistle on 17th September 2025, when our Year 7 boys kicked off the football season away at Cowes Enterprise College, to the final ball bowled by our U13 cricketers in July, Carisbrooke College has lived and breathed sport.

    Across the year, our students have thrown themselves into an incredible 221 competitive fixtures, spread over 85 separate evenings of sport, proving that the Carisbrooke sporting spirit never takes a day off!

    Whether it was scoring goals, smashing boundaries, sinking baskets, racing across muddy fields or scaling climbing walls, our students represented the College with determination, teamwork and pride.

    A Sporting Calendar Packed with Action!

    Our teams competed in:

    Our sports leaders also organised fantastic events for local primary schools, including Tag Rugby, Athletics and Table Cricket.

    Alongside competitions, 430 students enjoyed unforgettable sporting experiences with trips to the O2 Arena Basketball Finals at the 02, Goodwood, Aqua Park, Splashdown, Paultons Park and a visit to St Mary’s Football Ground to watch the London Lionesses in action.
