Chinese Calligraphy

Students in Year 10 were treated to a special lesson in Chinese calligraphy last week from Chinese teacher Miss Yan who helped them to better understand the etymology behind the words they are learning.
Learners developed a greater appreciation for the nuances of the language and were given the opportunity to use real Chinese calligraphy equipment to write characters they have been using in class, along with some new ones taught to them by Miss Yan.
Students were given tips on how to hold the brush properly, form the words correctly and ultimately write Chinese the way poets and scholars in China have for thousands of years.
After half term, students from all year groups will have the opportunity to try out this equipment and learn to write Chinese characters with Miss Yan and Mr Briscoe every Tuesday after school in Carisbrooke's China club. This is also a time where students can complete Mandarin homework, seek extra support from teachers and generally learn about and experience more Chinese language and culture.
好好学习,天天向上! Keep up the good work!
