On Tuesday 7 October, Carisbrooke College’s Year 7 students swapped their school shoes for dancing shoes, and let’s just say the hall has never seen so much glitter, glow sticks, and questionable flossing (the dance move, not the dental hygiene although we do encourage both).

The Year 7 School Disco was a certified banger from start to finish, and it’s all thanks to the dream team of staff and superstars who turned a regular evening into a night our students won’t forget no matter how hard they try to erase that moment their tutor joined in with the Macarena.

Huge thanks go out to our Year 7 tutors and supporting staff who gave up their evening to supervise a room full of sugar-fuelled pre-teens attempting to breakdance. Legends. Your bravery has been noted and may be eligible for a bravery award next term.

Miss Divers, our resident party-starter, was on hand delivering non-stop entertainment. We’re not saying she could host her own Netflix comedy special, but let’s just say someone had the entire room doing the cha-cha slide like their lives depended on it. 

Ms Jones, our hydration hero, deserves a standing ovation for making sure every student stayed properly watered during their two-hour rendition of "running man meets interpretive dance." Your calm and collected water station became the hottest (and coolest) spot in the hall.

Then there’s AJ the DJ, who once again proved exactly why he’s the only DJ we’d trust with our precious playlists. With tunes so good they had teachers toe-tapping in the corner and students forming spontaneous conga lines, we’re convinced: AJ isn’t just the best DJ on the Island, he may actually be Ibiza’s biggest threat.

And finally, drum roll please... the woman who makes it all happen year after year: Mrs Lythgoe, our phenomenal Head of Year 7 and Transition Lead. Your tireless effort, creativity, and total dedication to Year 7s has created events that are not only unforgettable, but the stuff of legend. For the past 7 years, you've made the Year 7 experience sparkle brighter than the disco ball and let’s face it, you’ve set the standard so high that other schools are still trying to find the ladder. From all of us at Carisbrooke, and especially from your groovy, grateful Year 7s, THANK YOU for an epic night.
