Year 10 Football - Match Report

The Year 10 boys went into today’s fixture knowing that a win would secure the league title and a place in the cup final. Unfortunately, despite their determination and effort, Carisbrooke fell to a 1–5 defeat against a strong Ryde School side who proved to be the better team on the day.

The scoreline, however, does not tell the full story of an excellent season. The boys have shown throughout the campaign that they were capable of winning every match. They ultimately finished fourth, but with only two points separating first from fourth, the league could easily have gone their way. Across the season, the team recorded 2 wins, 2 draws and just 1 loss, a testament to their consistency and competitiveness.

Today’s game also highlighted the resilience and adaptability of the squad. With first-choice goalkeeper Archie unavailable due to illness, Jude B stepped up at the last minute to take his place between the posts and handled the responsibility with maturity. Injuries meant more unexpected changes, with Kameron coming in and making an immediate impact by scoring a well-taken late goal at the back post from a corner, while Luca also came on for his first appearance of the season.

Jack H once again epitomised the Carisbrooke spirit, showing bravery and determination whether playing at centre-back or leading the line up front. Meanwhile, Jacob K earned a thoroughly deserved Man of the Match, delivering an outstanding performance at left back, consistently strong in the tackle and composed on the ball.

Although the result was not the one the boys hoped for, they can hold their heads high after a season full of effort, teamwork and high-quality football. Well done to the entire squad on a campaign that demonstrated their ability, character and potential for future success.
