Year 7 & 8 Netball Success

November and December have been a busy months for our Netballers with all year groups competing in the Island Schools Netball Tournament held at Cowes Enterprise College. Over the last two weeks it was Year 7 and 8's turn to participate.
On Monday 2 December, our Year 8 girls worked incredibly hard and played some excellent Netball. The girls had some challenging matches from a strong number of teams from Cowes and Ryde. All girls were a credit to the school. Despite having limited space for training due to the sportshall being out for most of this term, the girls were fantastic in applying pressure to other teams. The girls were quick thinking at getting the ball to their GA and GS and Esme and Saf put on show a number of shots into the hoop. The girls were placed 7th out of 12 teams. Well done Year 8.
On Monday 8 December, it was our Year 7's chance to shine and this was the girls first experience of playing Netball for Carisbrooke College. Straight away the girls showed up with a positive attitude (probably due to Christmas songs being played on the way in the minibus to get them in the zone).
As the tournament progressed the girls started to develop confidence in their roles and demonstrated some excellent play from all members of the team. Soon the girls got into a rhythm and quickly started to play the ball down the court in just three passes to Amelia or Orla who set each other up nicely to take a shot or claim the rebounds to score a number of goals. Maisie worked hard around the D to maintain possession and our defensive players were quick to clear the ball from our end of the court.
The Year 7 girls were phenomenal from start to finish. They held their ground against top rivals Ryde School and Cowes where they managed to draw with both teams who eventually made it to the final playoff. Overall, our Year 7 team came 5th out of 12 teams, a very impressive result.
Miss Dewey and all at Carisbrooke are very proud of all of you!
