Faraday Challenge

Six Year 8 students took part in the IET Faraday Challenge on Tuesday 10 February. Held at Christ the King College, six teams from local secondary schools took part in a series of engineering-based tasks to deliver a product that could be taken into production by the client.

Teams were mixed, given their challenge and had to decide on roles including Project Manager, Accountant etc. Engineering Consultants were on hand to help with initial ideas, which were later realised using the team's "Faraday" currency to purchase materials with which to build a prototype. Alongside this construction phase, the students also had to present their idea to the rest of the teams and answer rigorous questions posed by the members of IET and teachers/rival team members.

Our six students were, alas, not placed first, but were very creditable throughout the day and stood up well to the scrutiny of the questioning, answering some very complicated hydraulic mechanical questions. The students were a credit to the school, and an excellent day was had by us all!
