Tournament Report: U13 Girls 6-a-Side Football Tournament

Venue: Cowes Enterprise College
Forget the rain and gloom of winter; the annual tournament was blessed with a beautiful, sun-drenched spring evening that made Cowes Enterprise College look more like the Bernabéu than a school field. It was the kind of weather that makes you glad to be alive—right up until the fourth back-to-back game, when you realise "pleasant sunshine" is actually "prime dehydration weather."
The Road to Glory
- Game 1: Carisbrooke 2–1 Medina
The girls started under a glorious sky. Esme clearly felt inspired by the sunshine, netting two clinical goals to ensure the campaign opened with maximum points. - Game 2: Carisbrooke 1–1 Ryde
A classic tactical stalemate. Maisie's lungs of steel finally paid off as she poked home the equaliser, proving that if you run enough, good things (and goals) eventually happen. - Game 3: Carisbrooke 0–1 Christ the King
An end-to-end thriller that had the sidelines biting their nails. We were narrowly edged out by a single goal, but the defensive line was tougher to get through than a locked school gate on a Saturday. - Game 4: Carisbrooke 1–0 Cowes
The Giant Killers. In a result that definitely dampened the home-team party, Carisbrooke took down the tournament hosts and eventual overall winners. Esme grabbed the winner, proving that the bigger the game, the cooler she gets. - Game 5: Carisbrooke 0–4 The Bay
Having just emptied the tank to beat the champions, the girls finally hit "low battery" mode. In their fourth consecutive fixture, heavy-duty fatigue set in. While The Bay were fresh, we were basically running on vibes and willpower.
The Squad: Legends of the Turf
- Nell: A literal wall. She was so committed she took a last-minute injury for the team. Luckily, goalkeepers are built from tougher stuff than the rest of us.
- Esme: The team’s "cheat code." Top scorer with 3 goals and a nightmare for opposition defenders.
- Maisie: Ran approximately 42 miles in the spring heat. Rewarded with a goal and likely a very long nap.
- Eva W: Operated in tight spaces like she had the ball on a string. Pure class.
- Eva A: The Swiss Army Knife of the team. High energy and could probably play every position at once if asked.
- Amelia: Earned the "Tiger" nickname for her tackling. Also, took a turn in goal, because why not?
- Annabelle: Provided the speed on the wings, leaving defenders wondering which way she went.
- Fleur: The engine room. Driving the team from the back like a human bulldozer.
- Norah: The "Ice Woman." Calm, composed, and refused to panic even when the pressure was on.
- Faye: A versatile hero. Did a stint in goal and remained a solid rock in the defensive line.
- Tilly: Made her school debut and looked so comfortable you’d think she’d been playing for years.
- Zara: The brains behind the operation. As Mr Fleming’s Assistant Manager and Head Cheerleader, she kept morale high and the clipboard organised.
