Year 9 Cougars Display of Skill, Teamwork and Character!

The Year 9 Carisbrooke College Cougars brought energy, teamwork, and plenty of flair to their annual basketball tournament on 22nd April 2026, taking on The Priory, Ryde Academy, and The Bay in a series of exciting matchups.

Carisbrooke came flying out of the blocks in their opening game against The Priory, delivering a dominant 11-0 victory. It was a statement performance, with Logan leading the charge with an impressive 6 points, supported by Dylan with 3 and Ted adding 2. Strong defence and sharp finishing made the scoreline look one-sided but Priory kept on fighting throughout and were unlucky not to register on the scoresheet on a number of occasions.

The second game against Ryde Academy proved to be a much tighter affair. Both teams battled hard throughout, but Carisbrooke held their nerve to secure a well-earned 10-7 win. Logan once again top-scored with 6 points, while Ethan and Dylan chipped in with 2 each. It was a competitive, end-to-end game that showcased the team’s resilience and ability to grind out a result under pressure.  A couple of players from Ryde must get a special mention as their sportsmanship was outstanding and a real credit to the school.

Heading into their final game against The Bay, the Cougars had a chance to win the tournament and for good reason. They surged into an early 6-2 lead thanks to disciplined defence and confident scoring. However, a crucial time out taken by their experienced coach seemed to shift the momentum. The Bay regrouped and came out growling, and quickly levelled the game at 6-6. Logan responded with a quick basket to edge Carisbrooke back in front, but as the clock ticked down, The Bay found another gear. They took the lead in the closing minutes and held on to claim a 12-8 victory.

Despite the final result, Carisbrooke were incredibly competitive and can be proud of their performances across the tournament. The Jennings brothers were standout performers in defence, while William’s relentless effort and determination epitomised the team’s spirit, scrapping for every ball and never giving less than 100%.

Overall, it was a fantastic display from the Cougars, who came close to topping the tournament and showed great skill, teamwork, and character throughout.

Logan has also moved up to third in the all-time scoring leaderboard for Carisbrooke students and now sits on 142 points which leaves him only 60 points behind our current record holder Callum on 202 from our 2013 class.
