On Monday 20th July, students from Carisbrooke College headed to Westridge Golf Club for our annual Golf Competition, enjoying a fantastic day of sport, friendly competition and, of course, the occasional adventure into the rough!

This year's format saw students tackle a full 18-hole medal competition, with players able to submit their best front or back nine holes as their official competition score. The format gave everyone, from experienced golfers to those playing their very first competitive round, the chance to produce a score they could be proud of.

The standard of golf on display was exceptional. Congratulations go to Logan, who claimed this year's title with a remarkable 36, closely followed by William on 39. Considering the junior par for nine holes is 33, both performances were simply outstanding and a testament to the hard work and dedication they have shown to their game.

However, the competition wasn't just about the scores. Every student represented Carisbrooke College brilliantly, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship, encouragement and resilience throughout the day. Whether they were seasoned golfers or picking up a scorecard for the first time, every player was a credit to the school.

As always, a few memorable moments deserve a special mention…

A huge well done to Thomas, who completed his very first golf competition and embraced every challenge the course had to offer.

Joshua produced what was surely one of the shots of the day by landing his approach to within five feet of the pin. Unfortunately, golf has a wonderful way of keeping us humble, and three putts later he somehow managed to walk away with a bogey. Proof that golf is a game of two halves!

Harry seemed determined to build a closer relationship with the greens than most, spending more time lying on them than putting on them. Whether he was checking the grass quality or simply taking in the scenery remains a mystery!

Special recognition also goes to Archie D and Archie T-P, who demonstrated tremendous patience and good humour by accompanying Mr Fleming during what can only be described as a character-building round. Rumour has it the scorecard finished somewhere around 50 over par, proving that even teachers have "off days" on the golf course!

Then there were the 'Mulligan Boys' – Warrick, Connor, Henry and Ethan – who perhaps hadn't quite realised this was a genuine medal competition rather than a casual Sunday knock-about! Their enthusiasm for the occasional "second chance" certainly kept everyone smiling, even if the scorecards didn't always agree.

A huge thank-you goes to Westridge Golf Club for once again hosting the competition and providing such a welcoming venue for our students. We are incredibly grateful for their continued support.

Finally, thank you to Mr Fleming and Mr Peake for organising the event and supporting our students throughout the day. Events like these provide fantastic opportunities for students to develop not only their golfing skills but also the honesty, resilience and sportsmanship that make golf such a unique and rewarding game.

Congratulations to everyone who took part. Whether you were chasing birdies, searching for golf balls in the trees or perfecting your putting, you all represented Carisbrooke College with pride—and we're already looking forward to next year's competition!
