Mandarin Learning Enriched by Miss Lu

Mandarin lessons at Carisbrooke College continue to enthuse and inspire our learners to develop their love of languages and, as excitement builds for our next linguistic adventure – an epic trip to Taiwan next year – our new Chinese Language Assistant, Miss Lu, has been bringing her knowledge and charm both to lessons and after school clubs since joining the school in September,
Miss Lu said: "The students here are really lovely and hardworking. The school is clean and beautiful and the staff are friendly. The students in year 7 have already learnt some useful Chinese and I have helped to correct their writing and given them encouragement each lesson. During lessons for all year groups, I have modelled the correct pronunciation and the students definitely improved a lot as a result. I have also enjoyed demonstrating how to write characters on the board at the front of the room and even helped to live-mark an exam paper with the year 10 GCSE Mandarin group."
All students in the school who study Mandarin either at KS3 or KS4 have Miss Lu in their lessons, and she also runs China Club every Monday after school, which is open to all year groups and offers an opportunity to write Chinese using calligraphy brushes, learn new words, get help with homework and examine the country and culture in more detail.
