Year 9 Lifelab Visit
On Thursday 22 May, 23 enthusiastic Year 9 students visited the University of Southampton Hospital Lifelab centre. Throughout the day, the students took part in various health and lifestyle activities, making full use of their extensive equipment. This included visualising their arteries using an ultrasound, taking their blood pressure, using CPR dummies and using a blood glucose monitor. They also had the opportunity to find out more about the work lives of scientists from different disciplines, including a neuroscientist, an infectious diseases researcher and a cancer researcher.
Finally, students extracted their own DNA and carried out gel electrophoresis - an exciting technology that allowed them to see the genes in DNA. The students were praised for their excellent behaviour and enthusiasm and were a credit to Carisbrooke College.
