Subject Intent: The Discovery curriculum helps students find their purpose, recognise personal strengths, build self-worth, and make positive contributions to society. It empowers students to identify their values and aspirations through the Kings Achieve programme and AQA Unit Awards, supporting them to discover their strengths while learning how to act positively within the world and develop essential employability and life skills, with no formal qualification emerging from this subject.

Assessment Framework: There is no formal external examination; students are assessed via positive portfolio logs linked to AQA Unit Awards and the Kings Achieve programme.

• Disciplinary Literacy & Vocab: Develops communication, reflection, and discussion skills through the use of personal targets, employability language, and real-world vocabulary linked to personal development and future pathways.
• Memory & Retrieval: Structured to revisit and reinforce key personal, social, and employability skills over time, enabling students to build confidence, resilience, independence, and self-understanding through repeated practice and reflection.
• Inclusion: Uses highly personalised learning pathways, scaffolded resources, practical activities, and flexible approaches that ensure all students can access learning, recognise their achievements, and celebrate progress.
• Enrichment & PD: Provides meaningful opportunities for students to engage with the wider world through community experiences, leadership activities, enterprise opportunities, and real-life experiences that support personal growth and self-discovery.
