Travel & Tourism
Subject Intent: The Travel & Tourism curriculum examines global connection, hospitality, and customer relationships, preparing students for dynamic international and local sectors. This Key Stage 4 course follows a two-year Pearson Edexcel BTEC pathway, introducing students to the dynamic, fast-paced world of global travel, helping them understand how travel organisations operate, how destinations appeal to different visitors, and how global factors influence the entire industry.
Assessment Framework: Pearson Edexcel BTEC Tech Award in Travel and Tourism combines internally assessed coursework (60%) with an external synoptic examination (40%).
The Five Curriculum Towers in Practice:
- Disciplinary Literacy & Vocab: Focuses on vocational, industrial communication models, customer service terminology, and commercial marketing vocabulary.
- Memory & Retrieval: Maps content over two years, so students move systematically from foundational coursework concepts to real-world applied synoptic examination.
- Inclusion: Ensures that all students, including those with SEND and facing disadvantage, can succeed through adaptive teaching methods and high expectations.
- Enrichment & PD: Fosters curiosity about the travel and tourism industry through exploration of global destinations, cultural experiences, visitor trends, and real-world case studies.
- Careers & Readiness: Connects travel and tourism knowledge to a wide range of career pathways, including hospitality, aviation, events management, customer service, tourism marketing, and international business.
