Goodwood Festival of Speed - A STEM-Fuelled Adventure!

On Thursday 10 July, students from Carisbrooke College had the unforgettable opportunity to attend the world-renowned Goodwood Festival of Speed, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of Formula 1. With the sun blazing down on what proved to be one of the hottest days of the year, our students embraced a day packed with excitement, innovation, and inspiration.
This year’s festival placed a particular emphasis on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), with a futuristic lens on the role of Artificial Intelligence in motorsport and automotive engineering. Students explored cutting-edge exhibits and interactive demonstrations, gaining insights into how AI is transforming performance, safety, and design in the racing world.
Among the many highlights was a close-up look at a range of legendary Formula 1 cars, including the 2024 Constructors’ Championship-winning McLaren. The energy was high as students also witnessed high-octane action from motocross stunt riders, admired an array of supercars, and experienced the thrill of live vehicle demos. There was plenty of fun too, not least when our very own staff member (Mrs Lythgoe) found herself stuck in a Range Rover.
Throughout the day, students conducted themselves with maturity, curiosity, and enthusiasm. They were a credit to the school in every way. Their impeccable behaviour and engagement, even in the sweltering heat, did not go unnoticed.
A huge thank you to Miss Dewey, Mr Peake, Miss Bracegirdle and Mrs Lythgoe who supported the visit and to the organisers at Goodwood for delivering such an enriching and memorable experience. We look forward to building on this inspiration back in the classroom and beyond.
