Summer Creative Showcase

On Wednesday 23 July students, parents, staff and governors enjoyed a sunny evening at Carisbrooke Castle with a showcase of work from the Art department and a programme of performances from our Drama Club and Music department.
Students from our Drama Club performed various scenes from plays 'Blood Brothers', ‘Wind in the Willows’, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, ‘Alice’, ‘The Three Little Pigs’, 'The Terrible Fate of Humpty Dumpty' and ‘Wendy and Peter Pan’. Musical performances were given by various students from this year’s Year 10 & Year 11 GCSE Music classes as well as performances from the ‘Song Cafe’ singing group, 'School of Rock' club and a number of soloists. Musical repertoire ranged from close harmony renditions of Sia’s ‘Cheap Thrills’ and Coldplay’s ‘Sky Full of Stars, to energetic band covers of songs by Nothing But Thieves, Nirvana and The Cranberries, and quieter acoustic numbers from artists including Benson Boone, Amy WInehouse and Keane. We were joined by some of our IWEF alumni who supported students throughout the day with their rehearsals and joined with some of the musical performances, as well as performing their own cover of ‘Golden Brown’ arranged by Dave Brubeck. All of our performers joined together for an electrifying massed finale of ‘Hey Jude’ by The Beatles, featuring some audience participation!
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to English Heritage, Widget, The Plaza Ices and Pete Whitlock for all of their support with this event, and to our school community for coming together for such a special evening and celebration of the incredible creative talent we have here at Carisbrooke!
The evening was free and unticketed, but if you would like to make a voluntary donation to our Creative Faculty to support the purchase of equipment for our department and help resource events and opportunities like this in the future, then please see the options available on the Arbor app in the ‘School Shop’ section. Thank you 🙂
If you would like to get involved in any of these creative activities or future performance opportunities, then please speak to Mr Lyle (Drama), Mrs Peckham (Music) or Mrs Westby (Art).
