Year 11 Girls Shine at Isle of Wight Netball Tournament!

The Year 11 girls’ netball team represented Carisbrooke College in fantastic style at the Isle of Wight Netball Tournament, hosted by Cowes Enterprise College and what a day of determination, teamwork, and shooting flair it turned out to be!

The girls got off to a tough start after arriving late and being put in to face one of the tournament favourites straight away, facing a strong Ryde School B side and going down 0–7, before meeting the powerhouse Ryde School A team. Despite the challenge, Carisbrooke made their mark with Maddison scoring our first goal of the tournament in a 1–14 battle that showed plenty of grit and resilience even if the scoreline did not reflect this.

Game three saw the team face Cowes A. Although the result was a 1–13 loss, the girls showed improved movement in the attacking third and began to find their rhythm whilst passing the ball up the floor.

Then came the turning point! Against local rivals Medina College, Carisbrooke roared into action after falling behind early. Rosie switched into full shooting mode, netting three fantastic goals, while Cerese added another with some brilliant positioning in the circle. The girls’ defensive unit tightened up, with Maisie and Lillie intercepting like pros. Final score, a 4–2 victory!

Momentum carried into the next match versus The Bay, where Rosie once again showed her sharp eye for goal with another hat-trick, sealing a 3–1 win and sparking plenty of sideline celebrations.  Mr Peake could be seen producing his floss alongside Ms Makepeace who tried her best to keep up the pace.

Despite a tough 8-1 loss to the eventual champions Christ the King (CTK) who were clinical in their attacking play, Carisbrooke finished the day on a high with a 2–2 draw against Cowes B, thanks to excellent teamwork and a goal from Elana and Rosie, one of our standout Year 10 call-ups, who played with real composure.

Across the court, every player made a big impact, Tamika, Cerese, Olivia, and Emily rotated superbly through the wings, supporting attacks and feeding the circle beautifully. Layla was keeping the intensity up at centre early on in the tournament and Amelia and Elana stepped up brilliantly as Year 10s, while Maddison contributed all over the court and Rosie was simply unstoppable in the shooting circle!

After all the points were tallied, Carisbrooke proudly finished 5th overall out of eight teams, an amazing achievement given that some of the teams in the tournament were well-oiled machines that look just as good as any team has done in the last few seasons across the island. Well done to CTK for being overall winners and Cowes Enterprise for hosting such a nice and competitive tournament.
