U14 Netball Tournament Report: Autumn Cup - Resilience and Shooting Power

The Autumn Cup Netball Tournament was a brilliant showcase of effort and resilience for the squad. Facing a crowded schedule of seven matches, the players demonstrated superb teamwork, securing two excellent early victories and maintaining a fighting spirit, especially in the shooting circle, throughout the demanding day.
Dominating the Opening Games
The team began the day with exceptional focus, immediately translating training groundwork onto the court. The opening match against The Island Free School was a tight, determined affair, resulting in a crucial 2-1 victory. The points were secured by an impressive display of accuracy from shooter Paighton, who netted both vital goals.
This winning form was solidified in the next fixture against Cowes Enterprise College, ending in another impressive 2-1 win. The goals were shared beautifully, with Paighton continuing her scoring streak alongside a decisive goal from Lexi. Starting the tournament with two back-to-back victories was a massive confidence boost and a clear sign of the team’s attacking capability.
Stepping Up to Elite Competition
As the tournament moved into the later rounds, the intensity ramped up significantly. The squad faced highly polished teams in quick succession, including a tough 0-4 loss against Ryde School A and a narrow 0-1 loss against Christ the King. While results didn't go our way here, the defence and mid-court worked tirelessly, showing immense discipline under pressure, particularly in the close Christ the King game.
The most spirited performance came in the afternoon against Ryde School B, resulting in an electrifying 2-2 draw. This was a fantastic demonstration of mental toughness, as the team rallied to ensure the points were shared, with the clinical Lexi delivering both goals from the shooting circle.
The final fixtures against The Bay (1-3 loss) and Lift Ryde (0-1 loss) were played on tired legs. Despite the fatigue, Lexi managed to convert one more goal against The Bay, showcasing her enduring determination.
Summary of Key Performance
Overall, the team should be incredibly proud. To secure two wins and a draw in such a strong field is a superb result. The attacking unit was outstanding, with Lexi (4 goals) and Paighton (3 goals) accounting for all seven goals scored. Their accuracy and movement in the circle were key strengths throughout the day.
Every player on court demonstrated commitment, and the hard-fought battles, even those ending in narrow defeats, will serve as invaluable experience. We look forward to building on this positive foundation in future competitions.
