Basketball Win!

On Tuesday 12th May, Carisbrooke College played a double header away at The Island Free School. Our year 9 students played first in what proved to be a close game throughout the first half with both teams having their moments of brilliance. However, in the second half, Carisbrooke managed to start moving the ball with greater fluency and started to open up gaps in the defence. Thanks to some excellent defence, particularly by William, and strong rebounding by Ethan and Ted Carisbrooke, they were able to stretch out their lead as the game came to the closing minutes. Warrick joined the team with some fantastic energy and pushed the ball up the court with pace. Dylan and Logan, as ever, provided plenty of firepower from outside and, with Ethan dominating close to the basket, Carisbrooke was able to take the win 30-18.
Ethan 12 points
Logan 6 points
Dylan 4 points
William 4 points – including the first and last basket of the game.
Ted 2 points
Warrick 2 points
In the second of our double header, our year 7s looked to maintain their unbeaten record this season. The game started at a fast pace which TIFS seemed to be surprised by and, as a result, Carisbrooke took an early lead which kept growing thanks to baskets from Joshua, Jenson, Sullivan and Jack. As Carisbrooke maintained their intense defence and Sullivan, who impressively grabbed rebound after rebound on the offensive end of the court, Carisbrooke were able to build on their lead with some comfort. Reuben and Albie joined in the scoring whilst Jack and Joshua continued to push the basket with more top quality finishing. After finishing the first half 23-2 up, Carisbrooke took the opportunity to trial a few different approaches and squad rotations. As a result, the boys looked to build upon their knowledge in a range of positions and whilst this prevented the same sort of scoring output in the first stages of the second half, it quickly picked up again. Joshua, Jack, Reuben and Jenson all added to their totals in the second half, whilst supported by Oscar, Tom and Seb, who played a part both defensively by getting in the passing lanes and offensively by pushing the pace of the game by getting the ball down court quickly. Albie was his usual self by ensuring every scrap and fifty-fifty ball were his, and when Sullivan got in on the act thanks to his best performance of the season, TIFS simply had no answers for the Cougars. As the final buzzer went, Carisbrooke took the win 35-2 and maintained their 100% record for the season.
Joshua 12 points
Jack 7 points

Well done to both teams for representing their school with pride.
