Sixty students from Carisbrooke College experienced an unforgettable day of innovation, inspiration and high-speed excitement when they visited the world-famous Goodwood Festival of Speed on Thursday 9th July.

The annual festival is renowned for bringing together the very best of motorsport, engineering and technology, making it the perfect destination for students with an interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Throughout the day, our students immersed themselves in a variety of interactive STEM activities, discovering how science, maths and engineering are shaping the future of the automotive and motorsport industries. They explored cutting-edge technology, sustainable vehicle design and the many exciting career opportunities available within these rapidly evolving sectors.

Of course, the day wasn't all about the classroom! Students had the chance to experience the incredible atmosphere that makes the Festival of Speed one of the UK's most iconic sporting events. They watched the famous hill climb, admired an extraordinary collection of historic racing cars, modern Formula 1 machinery, electric supercars and some of the world's most impressive hypercars.

One of the biggest highlights of the day was seeing current Formula 1 World Championship leader Kimi Antonelli, whose appearance generated huge excitement among motorsport fans. For many students, it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see one of Formula 1's brightest young talents up close and experience the buzz surrounding the future of the sport.

There was no shortage of adrenaline elsewhere around the festival either. The spectacular action sports arena kept everyone entertained with jaw-dropping freestyle motocross, BMX and stunt bike displays, where riders performed gravity-defying tricks that left the crowds amazed. Students also enjoyed exploring manufacturer exhibitions, interactive displays and seeing famous drivers, riders and engineers who continue to push the boundaries of performance and innovation.

The visit perfectly demonstrated how STEM subjects learnt in school can open the door to exciting careers in engineering, technology, design and motorsport. Seeing these concepts applied in the real world inspired many of our students to think about the possibilities that lie ahead.

A special thank-you goes to Mrs Lythgoe, Mrs Bridgewater, Miss Harris, Tegan and Mr Peake, whose enthusiasm, support and organisation helped make the visit such a fantastic experience for all 60 students.

Trips like these are invaluable in bringing learning to life, broadening horizons and inspiring the next generation of engineers, designers and innovators. It was a truly memorable day, filled with discovery, excitement and experiences that our students will be talking about for years to come.
