Head of School's Blog - 29 November 2024

Year 11 students have the opportunity on Wednesday next week to get a first-hand experience of the opportunities available at the Island VI Form - they will experience lessons from the wide variety of subjects that are on offer at A level.

Parents/carers of Year 11 students will have received an email regarding our Year 11 parents’ evening on 5 December in school from 4.00 pm - 7.00 pm. This is an excellent opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with their individual subject teachers. If you haven’t already booked your appointments, please do so using the Arbor App. If you have any problems booking appointments, please contact donna.keogh@carisbrooke.iow.sch.uk.

Attendance is currently running at 92.2% and has this week dropped below the national average. It was pleasing to see year 11 attendance increase for the trial exams - we hope that this improved attendance will continue. Being in school is important to your child’s achievement, wellbeing, and wider development. Parents/carers need to telephone before 8.45am on the day of absence on 01983 524651, select option 1, followed by the relevant year group option number. Phone calls need to be made every day of the student's absence and a message left on the voicemail informing of the reason for the absence.

On Wednesday 20 November our year 8 girls went to Cowes to take part in the annual netball competition and what a tournament they had. You can read all about it here.

There is a lot of interest in our Santa Dash this year. If your child would like to take part, please complete the consent form as soon as possible. The donations for our Food Bank collection are growing. If you have any items of pre packed food or toiletries that you would like to donate, please drop them into reception. Thank you to those who have already brought in their donations. Year 7 are also collecting items for the Salvation Army Charity Christmas Boxes. Thank you all for the donations received so far, any more would be greatly appreciated.

There is now less than two weeks until our student performance of ‘Alice’ and tickets are available on Arbor. As a reminder, we also have our Christmas Concert which is free to attend and no tickets are required on Wednesday 18 December at Newport Minster (St Thomas' Square, PO30 1SL). Seasonal refreshments will also be available.

Our canteen will be serving a Christmas lunch on Wednesday 18 December. Here is the menu.

Congratulations to our highest achievement point winners last week, McKinley in year 7, Evie year 8, Cody and Millie year 9, Holly year 10 and Roo year 11.

Have a lovely weekend.
