Weekly Updates from Carisbrooke College

It has been great to see the return of morning lines at the start of the school day. Unfortunately, the recent rain has meant that some have been interrupted, but we will continue whenever the weather allows. As a reminder, all students are expected to be in the correct school uniform and uniform checks will take place in lines. Please check that your child has the expected PE kit.   Carisbrooke College Unform Policy  Also, please be aware that the Academy Committee has approved the addition of ‘black flares’ as an item of clothing which was requested by girls during our recent student consultation about our Behaviour and Culture policy.

I would also like to remind parents and carers that absences must be reported every day of absence using the Arbor app. This is especially important for safeguarding purposes, as it allows us to ensure that all children are safe and accounted for. Thank you for your cooperation in supporting this vital aspect of school life.

I would like to thank all parents and carers who attended the Year 9 Parents’ Evening on Thursday. It was a great success and provided a valuable opportunity for constructive conversations between home and school. My thanks also go to our teachers for their time, preparation and commitment to supporting our students.

The Year 9 options process will be taking place later this year, and further information will be sent out shortly to parents and students to guide them through this important stage.

We are very proud of the opportunities being offered beyond the classroom. Thank you to Mr Lyle for taking six drama students to the National Theatre to see Ballet Shoes. It was an excellent performance, and our students represented the school superbly throughout the visit.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support of the school and our students.

Year 7 Noah participates in the New Year's Day parade in London

Year 7 student Noah took part in the London New Year’s Day Parade as a member of the Medina Marching Band. He marched through central London, passing well-known landmarks including Trafalgar Square, Horse Guards Parade, The Mall, and finishing in Westminster in front of Big Ben, the London Eye, the Houses of Parliament, and Westminster Abbey.

The parade was live-streamed on YouTube and broadcast on BBC iPlayer and Sky News, making it a significant and memorable experience.

Noah showed excellent commitment, confidence, and maturity throughout the event. He should be very proud of himself for completing such a demanding parade at such a young age, and he is a credit to himself and the school.

Feel Good Friday

'In his book 'The Anxious Generation', Jonathan Haidt explores how modern childhood has changed, and what these changes mean for young people’s wellbeing. This week's 'Feel Good Friday' feature highlights some of the key takeaways and lessons from the book, and some practical suggestions for young people and families seeking to support healthier, more resilient development.  Mrs Peckham will be talking in more detail about this in our assemblies next  week.
