It has been another successful week for our Year 10 students. On Wednesday, they attended a valuable taster day at Island VI Form. Phil Pearce Jones wrote to me to say: I just wanted to drop a quick email to say that your Year 10 students were exceptional. They were very mature and engaged really well. They are a credit to your school.
On Thursday, Mrs Perry accompanied a group of students to a work experience event hosted by Captiva Homes. The visit provided an excellent opportunity for students to learn more about the world of work, meet industry professionals and gain an understanding of career pathways within the construction sector.
Wednesday evening also saw our spectacular Summer Showcase. It was wonderful to see our Drama, Music and Art students proudly showcasing the results of their hard work and dedication. A huge thank you to Mrs Westby, Miss Peckham and Mr Lyle for the time, commitment and enthusiasm they invested in organising such a memorable evening. Thank you also to everyone who came along to support the showcase.
This week also marked the introduction of our QuietCases for student devices (the Device Policy is available on the website). We have been thoroughly impressed with how quickly the students have adapted. One of the biggest student concerns was the time it would take to unlock their QuietCases and on the first day, they completed this in four minutes. As the week progressed, we were able to reduce this to under three minutes. Thank you for all the positivity and support surrounding this important initiative that supports our students to have much-needed free time. Please be reminded that a replacement QuietCase is £18 if they do happen to be lost or intentionally damaged, please purchase on the Arbor App.
Looking ahead to next week, with further warm weather forecast and the PE changing rooms unavailable due to painting, students may come to school wearing their PE kit. Some students have been wearing very short “hot pants”-style shorts rather than the school’s expected PE uniform. Our PE uniform expectations are designed to support comfort, practicality, and a professional school environment for both students and staff. Clothing that falls outside the agreed uniform can create difficulties in maintaining these expectations. Please could you ensure that your child attends school wearing the correct PE kit as outlined in our uniform guidance.

We are excited to welcome our new Year 7 students on Tuesday for their Transition Day; giving them the chance to meet staff and begin making new friendships before they join us in September. Please be reminded that school is closed to students on Wednesday 8 July, for our staff Development Day.
Finally, we recognise that many of our students and families will be excited about the upcoming England v Mexico match and appreciate the sense of excitement and community that major sporting events can bring. However, we would like to remind families that school routines and statutory expectations remain unchanged. We expect all students to attend school as normal and to arrive on time each day. While we know there will be plenty of discussion and excitement surrounding the match, maintaining strong attendance and punctuality remains essential.
