Weekly Updates from Carisbrooke College

We’re delighted to see so many of our Year 11 students attending the 8:00 am pre-exam breakfast sessions. These provide not only a tasty and energising breakfast but also a calm space to relax, connect with friends, and receive any last-minute support from staff before heading into the exam room. If your child has a morning exam, please do encourage them to attend.

Our exam invigilators have shared how impressed they are with the excellent behaviour and positive attitude of our students during the exam period. They’ve also complimented how well organised the arrangements are - one even remarked that they wish all students had been like this when they were at school! Go Carisbrooke!

A big thank you to our Maths staff and Year 11 students who stayed after school for an extra hour of revision on Wednesday. We know how valuable this time is, and we’re proud of everyone who is going the extra mile to secure the best GCSE outcomes possible. We will also be running two Maths revision sessions during the half term break - details to follow shortly.

Another fantastic fundraiser took place this week for the Year 11 Prom. The inter-tutor group football competition was a huge success, raising over £100! Thank you to all the students who took part, and a special shout out to Mrs Dewey, Mr Phillips, and Mr Fleming for helping to run the event and showcasing some excellent refereeing skills.

Our final Bikeability session for Year 7 has now taken place, and we’re thrilled to report how well the students represented the school. The organisers praised their maturity and positive attitude throughout this valuable extra-curricular opportunity. Well done to all involved and a big thank you to Mrs Lythgoe for leading the programme with such care.

Looking ahead to next week, we have a vocal workshop as part of the One Day Will Come SCMP project. This will help prepare our school singers for their performance at the summer concert at Carisbrooke Castle. It is a fantastic opportunity for our musically talented students, and we are grateful to Mrs Peckham for organising it.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend!

Feel Good Friday

Mental health is more than just a small part of our lives – it’s connected to everything we do, every place we go and everyone around us. Yet it can be difficult to know how to respond to someone who is struggling with their mental health, or to be open with others about our own emotions; something lots of us still find difficult.

This Mental Health Awareness Week (May 12-16), we are sharing some top tips to help anyone who might be concerned about someone they know, or about their own mental health, find ways to get a conversation around it going: Feel Good Friday - 16 May 2025

Knife Crime Awareness Week – Important Notice for Parents and Carers
As part of our ongoing commitment to keeping students safe and informed, next week we will be marking Knife Crime Awareness Week. During this time, students will engage with important content designed to educate them about the dangers, consequences, and impact of knife crime.

The materials used have been developed in collaboration with the British Red Cross and local police authorities, ensuring they are both informative and appropriate for the age group. Students will be guided through discussions and activities by staff, with sensitivity and support.

We believe it is important for young people to be aware of these issues, and we encourage parents and carers to have follow-up conversations at home. If you have any questions or would like to discuss the content further, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

In recent months, TV programmes have been produced which many of our students have been discussing and clearly gained access to and these also highlight the seriousness of the complexity surrounding such topics.

Walk the Wight 2025

Well done to all of our families who took part in Walk the Wight for Mountbatten on Sunday 🌻 Whether you marshalled, took part in the 4 mile school event, or took on one of the longer routes, we are immensely proud of you! This is another example of how we can achieve great things when we come together as a community 💙
