I hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable half term.
On Tuesday, our Year 10 Geography students braved the wet and windy weather to take part in a field trip to Sandown as part of their GCSE coursework. Mr Westby was very impressed with their maturity and behaviour throughout the day—thank you to him for organising the trip.
Next Thursday, a selected group of students will be taking part in workshops as part of the Y Con Project. This research project explores how convenience stores near schools influence what young people choose to buy and why. If your child has been invited to participate, you will have already received an invitation and consent form.
25 of our year 9 students experienced an incredible musical opportunity this Monday when the London Sinfonietta came to visit! Mrs Peckham and Nia Collins (IOW Lead for South Coast Music Partnership) led a workshop alongside three musicians from the London Sinfonietta. More details can be found below. Next Thursday, another group will be performing at the ‘Our Day Will Come’ Vocal Prom at Carisbrooke Castle. This exciting event will take place on the castle’s bowling green and features young voices from across the Island, including songs written by local schools, artists, and musicians. The concert runs from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, and families of participating students are warmly invited to attend.
We were really pleased with the excellent turnout from our Year 11 students at the extra maths revision sessions over half term. A big thank you to the students for their hard work, to you as parents for your ongoing support, and to the dedicated teachers who gave up their break to help.
Year 11 exams continue this week, and we’re incredibly proud of how our students are approaching them. Their attitude, behaviour, and commitment have been exemplary. It’s also great to see so many making the most of the 8:00 am pre-exam breakfast sessions, which will continue throughout the exam period.
Before half term, a letter was sent regarding Year 11’s final day. Students will finish school on Friday, 13 June, following their leavers’ assembly at 12:30 pm. Plaza Ices will be on site to offer a free ice cream or lolly, after which students will be asked to leave the school premises.
As we are now into the summer months, please be aware that we keep an eye on the weather conditions. In the event of a heatwave students will be allowed to wear PE kit.
The Met Office (the UK's weather experts) define a heatwave as a period of at least 3 consecutive days which meet or exceed a given threshold based on location - for example, 25°C. They can last from a few days to a few weeks and are considered an extreme weather event.
Do please check that your child has full PE kit so that, should we initiate this change in uniform, they are prepared.
PE Kit:
Blue Carisbrooke sports top with school logo, plain black long sports socks and plain black shorts of an appropriate length.
Optional PE items: tracksuit bottoms (plain black), skort (plain black), sports leggings (plain black – these must be sports leggings, NOT fashion leggings).
If you have not yet completed the parent/carer survey sent out on Monday, we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The link to the survey is here.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
