Weekly Updates from Carisbrooke College

On Thursday, a selected group of students took part in workshops as part of the Y Con Project, a research initiative exploring how convenience stores near schools influence young people's buying choices. A big thank you to all the students who participated—the organisers were incredibly impressed by their politeness and exemplary behaviour.

Today marked the final day in school for our Year 11 students. After their exam, they gathered for their leavers’ assembly, where they shared fond memories of their time at Carisbrooke.  Thank you to tutors for amazing speeches. To the students who gave speeches and sang. To Mrs McDowell for tremendous work with the year group. I can honestly say that as a year group, they have been an absolute pleasure and I know how much this is down to the wonderful work of our teachers and support staff. Congratulations to each of them as they move on to the next exciting chapter in their lives.

A reminder that some exams are still taking place next week, and as always, the canteen will be open for breakfast beforehand.

Looking ahead to 23 June, Miss Bracegirlde has registered our school to take part in a record-breaking event led by the Jamie Oliver Cookery School. The aim is to break the Guinness World Record for the largest number of people cooking simultaneously—with over 6,700 participants expected to join live! If your child has been selected to take part, they will be receiving a letter soon. This is a wonderful and historic opportunity—best of luck to everyone involved!

Congratulations to Ella in Year 10 for her presentation at the ARTiculation Project, held at the University of Leeds. A huge thank you to Mrs Smith for making this fantastic opportunity possible. We’d also like to celebrate Will in Year 8, who was invited to the University of Southampton Maths Challenge—one of just 70 students selected from over 1,300 entries. Well done to both students on these outstanding achievements. More details can be found below.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

It was an emotional day today, saying farewell to our fabulous Year 11 students. We wish them a wonderful summer and look forward to seeing them at the Prom on 26 June and results day on 21 August.

Warm Weather Forecast...

Warmer weather is forecast over the next couple of weeks so we have made the decision to make blazers optional until further notice. All other uniform expectations remain.

Don't forget, your child should be bringing a water bottle to school with them to ensure that they stay hydrated. We have water fountains where bottles can be re-filled.

On Wednesday 11 June, Ella from Year 10 presented at the national final of the ARTiculation project at the University of Leeds. The project is a joint venture between The National Gallery and the University of Leeds and involved a previous round where a group of year 10 Art students filmed presentations to submit. Ella's video was chosen from schools across the country and she was invited as one of eight finalists.

It was the culmination of months of work where Ella has researched to discover as much information as she could about an American artist, Angela Canada Hopkins and a piece of her work called 'Cell No. 15 (Apoptosis)'.

Ella's presentation was phenomenal and the competition was fierce. The judges said that Ella's presentation was engaging, beautifully researched and confidently presented. She came away as a runner-up, and we are all SUPER proud of her work ethic andconfidence, but mainly because she is such a pleasure to work with.

Well done Ella - excellent work!

Well done to Will in Year 8 who entered this year's University of Southampton Maths Challenge. He was one of just 70 (out of 1300 entries) to be invited to attend their awards ceremony recently and the only young person from the Isle of Wight.

It was an evening of mathematical recreation and a buffet dinner where everyone learnt lots about spurious correlation and probability equations!

Well done, Will! We are all very proud.

Feel Good Friday

As we wave goodbye to our Year 11 students today, we think about how change is a big part of life and how important it is that we learn how to cope with change, and in fact embrace it and the opportunities it can bring.
