It has been another busy and productive week at Carisbrooke College. Our Year 10 trial exams commenced and will continue into next week. We are extremely impressed with the maturity and exemplary behaviour demonstrated by the students throughout the examination period. Their focus and conduct under exam conditions are truly commendable.
On Thursday, a group of our Year 8 students visited Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London to watch a performance of Romeo and Juliet. Despite the warm weather, students had a memorable experience watching from ‘The Pit’ as traditional ‘groundlings’, gaining insight into what theatre was like in Shakespearean times. A big thank you to Mrs Smith for organising the trip, and to all staff who supported the visit.
We are really excited to announce that we are launching the PEACH initiative at Carisbrooke College! PEACH is the 'Partnership for Education, Attainment and Children's Health' and is led and quality-assured by the Isle of Wight Council’s Public Health team. The PEACH programme supports schools in improving the health and wellbeing of their pupils, staff and families. It is an award-based framework offered to schools, focussing on the four health domains of Physical Activity, Healthy Eating, PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) and Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health. As a school we are now actively looking at the PEACH framework with the hope to improve our students' awareness, experiences and opportunities in these areas, and achieve our PEACH Bronze Award by the end of the year. Myself and Mrs Peckham met with Linda from PEACH on Wednesday and and she commented: ‘Thank you all so much for your valuable time today. I am genuinely excited about working with you in the future with all things 'PEACH'. Your enthusiasm, creative attitude and positivity are certainly inspiring.’
Looking ahead, next week promises to be equally eventful. Highlights include:
- Our music students participating in a concert with the London Sinfonietta at Medina College on Tuesday.
- The Food Technology department’s attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most people cooking simultaneously, also on Tuesday.
- An inter-school showjumping competition on Thursday.
- Our prestigious Awards Evening on Thursday, celebrating student achievements across the year.
In response to student and parent voice, we are adding tailored black shorts to our uniform policy. Please be aware that only tailored shorts will be permitted. See picture. Next week, students can wear their PE kits to school if they wish - otherwise it is full uniform.
Finally, we rounded off this week with the Year 11 Prom on Thursday evening. It was a wonderful occasion, giving our students the opportunity to celebrate the end of their secondary school journey in style. They represented the school with pride, and we wish them all the very best in their future endeavours. Please see some images below. Be sure to check our social media channels for more photos from the event next week.
Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable weekend.
