As always, another busy and productive week in school.
Our sporting fixtures continue in full swing — thank you to all the students who take part with such energy and commitment. Also for the break/lunchtime/afterschool clubs, a huge thank you to the staff who organise, coach, and support these events. Your dedication makes it all possible.
We’ve been pleased with the start of our Year 11 intervention sessions during tutor time. These are designed to give students targeted support in the run-up to their exams. Every little bit of focused support can make a big difference.
We know that from time to time, illness can’t be avoided and of course, we want students to stay home to recover when they’re genuinely unwell. Please ensure you are familiar with this NHS guidance so that you know when to, and when not to, keep your child off school.
With regards to attendance, look out for a message coming today regarding recording student absences via the Arbor App. We’ve made it easier for you to notify us if your child is absent or has an appointment. The Arbor App now includes a simple way to report absences directly — saving time and making the process more convenient for everyone. Should we require further evidence in order to authorise the absence, you will be contacted by your child’s Head of Year.
Can I please raise awareness of Chatbots? Chatbots aren’t new, but they’re getting a lot more advanced. These AI tools are being used on social media and apps that many children already use, like Snapchat or TikTok. But while these bots can be fun or helpful, they also come with some real risks. The Children’s Society has recently published an article on the issue which you can find here.
On Monday we have our Open Evening and we are looking forward to welcoming year 6 students and their families. This is an opportunity for visitors to explore our school, meet staff and students and see what we have to offer. As an already over subscribed school, we are expecting a big turnout. Thank you to the many current students who have volunteered to help on the night showcasing lessons or guiding the visitors around the building. It is a pleasure to see how proud the students are of their school.
A reminder that school will be closed to students next Friday 3 October, for a staff development (INSET) day. School will resume as normal the following Monday.
Have a lovely weekend.
