As we approach the October half-term break, I want to take a moment to reflect on what has been a purposeful and positive start to the academic year.
This half term, we have aligned our work to the first of our Castle Values: Courage. And what a fitting theme it has been. Across the school, we’ve seen pupils demonstrating courage in so many ways, whether that’s stepping up to perform in assemblies, tackling a new subject or skill, representing the school in competitions or simply showing the bravery to ask questions and push themselves outside of their comfort zones. It has been a joy to see, and a powerful reminder of what our values look like in action.
This week, our Year 11 pupils attended the Careers Fair at Medina College. It was a valuable opportunity to explore future pathways, speak directly with employers and providers and start thinking ahead with confidence. We encourage you to follow up with conversations at home, asking questions and exploring options together can make a real difference as they begin to shape their next steps.
Looking ahead, it’s important to note that Year 11 trial exams begin on Monday 10 November. While the break offers some valuable time to rest and reset, it is also a key opportunity for revision. A timetable of half-term revision sessions has been sent out and we strongly encourage students to attend where possible, alongside following their own revision timetable at home and building up their revision resources.
Meanwhile, our students currently on the China trip are continuing to have an unforgettable experience. Early reports suggest they’re embracing every opportunity, immersing themselves in culture, language and new perspectives. We look forward to hearing more when they return. In the meantime, photos and videos are being shared on our Facebook page as we receive them!
We’ll be holding our Year 7 Tutor Evening on Thursday 6 November. If you have not already booked your appointment, please do so using the Arbor app. This evening gives parents and carers a valuable chance to connect with tutors, discuss how the transition to secondary school has gone and celebrate early achievements.
Please note that Monday 3 November is a Staff Development Day, and students are not in school on that day. Students return on Tuesday 4 November for the second half of the autumn term.
Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable half-term break. Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to welcoming students back on 4 November.
