Weekly Updates from Carisbrooke College

I hope all our families enjoyed a restful and refreshing half-term break.

On Monday, our staff came together for a trust-aligned development day. It was a busy and inspiring session filled with training, planning, and collaboration. It was wonderful to see our team sharing ideas and preparing for the exciting weeks and months ahead.

Although it has been a shorter, four-day week for our students, it has certainly been full of enriching experiences. A big thank you to Ms Peckham for organising a fantastic trip for our GCSE Music students to the University of Southampton, where they toured the music facilities and enjoyed a live performance by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. You can read more about the visit below, and don’t miss our talented Year 11 student, Annelise, performing with the Orchestra on our social media channels!

Another memorable moment this week was our students’ participation in the Field of Remembrance Service at Carisbrooke Castle. Representatives from every year group attended, and they were exemplary ambassadors for our College. We are very proud of them.

Looking ahead to next week, our Year 11 mock examinations begin on Monday. These provide valuable preparation for the final GCSE exams, helping students to identify strengths and areas for development, build confidence, and refine their revision strategies. Please encourage your child to get plenty of rest and start each day with a healthy breakfast to help them perform at their best.

Also on Monday, we’ll be celebrating Odd Socks Day as part of Anti-Bullying Week. This is a fun and meaningful event that reminds us of the importance of celebrating our differences, so please encourage your child to take part and wear their brightest, oddest socks!

Finally, I want to thank everyone for your continued support this week as we have worked to communicate clearly around safeguarding and site safety. I understand how important transparency is to our families and always aim to share as much information as possible. On rare occasions, there are external restrictions on what I can disclose, and I truly appreciate your patience and understanding when this happens.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Warm regards,
Natalie Sheppard

Well done to the group of students who attended the Field of Remembrance Service yesterday morning at Carisbrooke Castle. You represented Carisbrooke College with pride and respect, laying a wreath on behalf of us all. It was a privilege to be part of such a meaningful and moving occasion.

We will remember them ♥️

The Riot Act visited Year 7 on Wednesday this week to deliver a road safety awareness performance and Q&A 🚗

The students were fully engaged in the performance and showed brilliant recall during the Q&A. They were a fantastic audience and took away some really important messages about keeping themselves and others safe.

Mr Williams, Head of Year 12 at The Island VI Form, came in to speak to Year 11 about their post-16 options this morning.

Students were also introduced to Aaron Francis, Careers Advisor, who will soon be having one-to-one interviews with students to provide independent advice, guidance and support with making plans for students' future careers.

The Island VI Form has an Open Evening coming up next Thursday, 13 November, for anyone who wishes to find out more about the courses on offer there. We highly recommend Year 11 families attend as many open events as possible to ensure you have all the information available to make informed choices for the future.

Summer's Double Title Win!

Huge congratulations to Year 10 student, Summer, on a double title win at the recent Indoor Crookhorn competition in Portsmouth.

Summer shot a Portsmouth round, and in Session 1, scored 560 out of 600. Then, in Session 2, she managed to push that even further and hit a 562 out of 600, which is a new personal best!

These scores meant that she secured first place in both the singles and doubles rounds. We are all incredibly proud of you, Summer! We can't wait to see you progress even further this year.

Student Success!

Please do let us know of any successes your child has outside of school so that we can celebrate them and share in our weekly updates. Please send details to info@carisbrooke.iow.sch.uk
