Weekly Updates from Carisbrooke College

As we head into the final week of term, the school is buzzing with activity and festive anticipation and this week has been wonderfully busy. Our sporting fixtures continue at pace, and I’d like to extend a big thank you to the PE department for organising and supporting so many events.

On Monday, our Year 11 Art students took part in a Natural Forms workshop with artist Jo Kori. It was an inspiring session that allowed students to explore their creativity in new ways. Thank you to Mrs Westby for arranging such a valuable experience.

Of course, a highlight of the week was the annual school play, performed on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. This year’s production, A Christmas Carol, was nothing short of remarkable. Our students shone on stage, delivering confident, heartfelt performances and our audiences were full of praise. A huge thank you to Mr Lyle for his exceptional direction and to Miss Peckham for her musical expertise. It has been a brilliant production that all students and staff have got to enjoy, as well as many children from local primary schools.

Looking ahead to next week, we still have plenty to look forward to: Carisbrooke College Christmas Concert at Newport Minster on Tuesday, 6.30 – 8 pm. Please come along to see our students performing a range of musical pieces.  Mince pies and mulled wine will be served to ensure the seasonal spirit flows.  Our thanks again to Miss Peckham for organising this festive celebration.

Our canteen staff will be serving a delicious traditional Christmas Lunch on Wednesday for staff and 200 students who have pre-ordered and Community Carol Singing is scheduled for Thursday.  This is then followed by our Final Day traditions on Friday, including mufti day (festive wear encouraged!), the much-anticipated staff panto and the Santa Dash.

As always, I ask that students maintain high standards of behaviour right through to the last day of term. Whilst it is an exciting and fun time of year, it is important that everyone finishes the year positively and safely. Please also remind students to take extra care around the zebra crossing before and after school.  Road safety remains a priority, especially during these darker mornings and afternoons.

Thank you for your continued support. Let’s enjoy this final week together as we move into the festive break.

Student Success: Summer's incredible weekend at the Junior National Indoor Archery Championships

We are incredibly proud to celebrate an outstanding achievement from one of our Year 9 students. Over the weekend, Summer travelled to Coventry to compete in her very first Junior National Indoor Archery Championship...and what a debut it was!

Shooting bright and early in the 8am session, she delivered an incredible personal best score of 568 out of 600, placing her at the top of the leaderboard. With her main competitors shooting later in session 2, Summer had an anxious wait, but with just three arrows left, it became clear that no one could match her score.

Summer is officially the Under-15 Recurve National Indoor Champion!

This prestigious competition brings together the best young archers from across Great Britain, making her achievement even more remarkable, especially under the pressure of her first national indoor event.

Please join us in congratulating Summer on this phenomenal accomplishment. We are so proud of you!

A Christmas Carol

A full report and album of images from A Christmas Carol will be shared next week. In the meantime, we want to say congratulations again and thank you to the staff and students who worked so hard to bring this production to life. You all embody our school values and have made us so proud this week. Your hard work and dedication are an inspiration to us all!

Feel Good Friday

This week's #FeelGoodFriday is a part two to our 'A Christmas Carol' theme, looking at the character Bob Cratchit. Despite his hardships, he remains warm, hopeful and compassionate, demonstrating his emotional resilience. Take a look at this week's infographic for the key messages of what we can take from Bob's character to improve our own emotional resilience and support those around us: FGF 12.12.25

Festive Mufti Day - Friday 19 December

We are delighted to share that the last day of term will be a festive-themed mufti day in support of the School Pastors!

Students may wear festive-themed clothing on 19 December (suitable for the school environment – no cropped tops, ripped jeans, offensive slogans or large jewellery) in exchange for making a £1 donation – payable via Arbor. Don't forget that the Santa Dash is taking place on this date, so if your child is taking part in that, they will need appropriate footwear and clothes that they are happy to run in. If students have PE lessons in the morning, they will need to bring their PE kit and get changed for the lesson.

If you are not familiar with the work of the School Pastors, here is a message from them:
"We are privileged to be part of the Carisbrooke school community and are asking for your support this mufti day. As School Pastors, we are there for all the students whatever their circumstance or needs. We come into school every Tuesday and provide a safe, confidential listening ear and work with the students to help them to find strategies to cope during difficult times. We work with the school and are available to offer support without a complicated assessment process or long waiting lists. Any student or parent can ask for this support, which can continue for several weeks or months. We give our time free of charge, but as a charity there are running costs, so we are asking you to consider donating £1 this mufti day to enable us to continue our work for as long as it is needed."
