It has been another extremely busy and successful week at Carisbrooke, with many opportunities for our students to demonstrate their hard work, resilience and enthusiasm.
I am delighted to share the news that our HISP Teacher Training programme has recently received an Ofsted outcome of ‘Strong’. This is a tremendous achievement for everyone involved and reflects the quality, dedication and professionalism that exists across the partnership. The report highlights the strength of the training programme and the excellent support provided to trainee teachers as they begin their careers in education. At Carisbrooke, we are proud to continue our long-standing tradition of supporting and training the next generation of teachers, helping to ensure that young people receive the very best educational experiences in the years ahead. The full report can be found here.
On Thursday evening, we welcomed Year 8 parents and carers into school for our Parents’ Evening, and it was wonderful to see such a positive turnout. The evening provided a valuable opportunity for families to discuss progress, celebrate successes and identify areas for continued development as students move towards the important next stage of their education. Thank you to all parents and carers for attending and to staff for their preparation and support throughout the evening.
Our Year 11 students have now fully entered the examination season, and I am very pleased with how smoothly the exams have been running so far. This is naturally a challenging and important time for students, and it has been particularly encouraging to see so many taking advantage of the breakfast and morning catch-up sessions before exams begin. These sessions are providing valuable opportunities for last-minute support, revision and reassurance, while also helping students to start the day feeling calm and focused. I would like to thank all staff involved in supporting Year 11 during this busy period and wish all students the very best in the weeks ahead.
This week also saw the first group of Year 7 students complete their Bikeability training. It has been brilliant to see students developing confidence, independence and important road safety awareness through the programme. Experiences such as these provide valuable life skills that students will carry with them beyond school. The second and third groups will take part next week, and we look forward to seeing more students benefit from the training. A special thank-you goes to Miss Lythgoe for organising and coordinating the programme so successfully.
Good luck to everyone taking part in Walk the Wight this Sunday for Mountbatten! We would love to celebrate everyone who has taken part by sharing a collage of photos in our newsletter and on our social media next week. If your child would like to be included, please send a photo/selfie of them from the event by Midday on Tuesday 12 May to info@carisbrooke.iow.sch.uk
On Thursday 14 May, the canteen will be serving Friday's menu of chicken goujons, fish, katsu quorn dipper, chips and beans. This is due to the funeral taking place of our late caretaker, Pete Ball, on Friday 15 May. To enable our kitchen staff to attend the funeral, on Friday the full break menu will be served as usual. At lunchtime there will be a selection of hot pizza and a full fridge of cold baguettes, sandwiches, wraps, fruit and cakes etc. We hope that you will donate to our fundraiser for Pete – mufti day on 20 May and Battle of the Bands – as we need to buy a new piano.
As always, thank you for your continued support of the school and our wider community. I hope everyone has a restful and enjoyable weekend.
