Weekly Updates from Carisbrooke College

It has been wonderful to welcome students back after the half-term break as we begin the final half-term of the academic year. For our Year 11 students, we are approaching the last few exams. We would like to draw your attention to the important dates included in the email sent to parents/carers of Year 11 yesterday.

You will be aware that we have been on a journey at Carisbrooke College where we have established a very clear vision for our school's future. This has included adopting our school motto of 'Education is Our Castle' and our associated school CASTLE values. We are excited to now begin the process of refreshing our branding in-line with our current position, particularly looking at our school logo.

We are asking parents, carers, staff, governors and our wider school community to share their views to help shape a new design that reflects who we are today and our future aspirations.

Please take a few minutes to complete our online feedback form here: https://forms.gle/scxEsPQifHvfhPm36

The deadline to complete the form is 23:59 on Sunday 14 June. We will then collate your feedback and share the next steps in the process. Students will also be asked to share their feedback with us via a separate online form or via a creative design task we will be running in school.

With the recent wet weather, we would like to encourage all students to wear a suitable waterproof coat when travelling to and from school.  Hoodies and other non-uniform items should not be worn in place of school uniform.

The Department for Education has earmarked Wednesday 17 June as Thank a Teacher Day. This is a moment to recognise the dedication, creativity, and care of all staff that work in schools.

If you and your child would like to send a free e-card to a member of staff, you can do so here

Let’s acknowledge the vital work happening in education across the country.

If you're going to the IOW Festival this year, come along and support our students (from across years 8–11), performing on the Kidzone Stage from 3:00pm-3:30pm on Sunday 21st June!

There will be repertoire from Oasis, Nirvana, The Rolling Stones, Noah Kahan, Marvin Gaye and our students' very own original song. They are VERY excited!!

We also have our Summer Creative Showcase pencilled in for 6:30pm on Wednesday 1st July at CC, with performances from both our Drama and Music departments and a display of students' artwork – save the date!

Parents & Carers: Join "I Wish I’d Known" – a free online workshop for Carisbrooke College from the DSM Foundation on Thursday 11 June at 6pm.

This informative session will help parents and caregivers better understand young people’s exposure to drugs and alcohol, the risks they may face, the factors that influence their decisions, and how to have open, effective conversations that support them to stay safe. You'll also learn how to recognise signs of concern and where to access further information and support.

With the Isle of Wight Festival just around the corner and many of our young people preparing to attend, this workshop offers a timely opportunity to build confidence in having important safety conversations before the event.

The history department are excited to launch another creative competition. Students across all year groups are invited to create a Canopic Jar!

Canopic jars were used in Ancient Egypt to store organs during mummification and were often decorated with special lids representing Egyptian gods. This competition is a chance to combine historical knowledge with creativity and craftsmanship.

The deadline for entries is Friday 19 June, so there is plenty of time to get involved! Good luck!
