Graphics (KS4 Only)
Subject Intent: The Graphics curriculum focuses on visual messaging, consumer psychology, and how imagery influences human choice and social perception. At Key Stage 3, students cultivate practical design ingenuity, visual communication abilities, and a deep appreciation of how strategic imagery influences modern societies.
Assessment Framework: No formal exam specification is studied at Key Stage 4, as this subject focuses on visual design principles at Key Stage 3.
The Five Curriculum Towers in Practice:
- Disciplinary Literacy & Vocab: Introduces and builds precise graphic design language, layout terminologies, and design-brief syntax to ensure students can accurately pitch visual concepts.
- Memory & Retrieval: Deliberately structures drawing techniques, presentation layouts, typography, and core branding elements into an iterative framework where concepts are revisited across creative projects.
- Inclusion: Adapts design briefs, uses visual exemplars, and creates scaffolded task sheets to ensure that all artistic aspirations can find creative success.
- Enrichment & PD: Investigates industrial packaging, advertising campaigns, and color psychology, prompting students to critically analyze how design shapes consumer choice.
